Frequently Asked Questions
How do you price tattoos?
We price by the piece, not by the hour. That means you’ll always know what your tattoo will cost upfront. Pricing depends on size, detail, and placement, color, but transparency is our thing—there are no surprises.
What is your “All Day Session”?
Our All You Can Ink Day is a one-of-a-kind Boise tattoo experience. You can get our entire shop and artist for the day and get as much ink as you can fit in! Come alone for a large custom piece, or share the day (and the cost) with your friends. It’s a favorite for couples, birthdays, or anyone who wants a full-day creative adventure.
Who is the tattoo artist?
Jasen Hansen, owner and artist at All You Can Ink Tattoo, has a degree in Art from Eastern Oregon University and brings that fine-art background into every piece. Jasen is known for custom tattoos that are personal, detailed, and made to fit you perfectly.
What types of tattoo styles do you offer?
We specialize in custom tattoos and black and gray realism, but Jasen’s background allows him to work across a wide range of styles—linework, illustrative, and creative concept pieces included. Every tattoo starts with a conversation and a custom design. There's nothing we can't do!
Can I bring my own tattoo design for reference?
Absolutely! Bring your ideas, sketches, or digital designs - Jasen Hansen loves working with your vision to create something truly one-of-a-kind. Whether it’s a design you found online or a piece you’ve drawn yourself, Jasen will use it as inspiration to craft a custom tattoo that fits your style, placement, and personality.
You can send a digital file or photo reference ahead of time, and Jasen will print it or hand-draw it in the shop to make it uniquely yours. Collaboration is what makes every tattoo at All You Can Ink Tattoo in Boise a true original.
Do you offer hand-drawn tattoos?
Yes, nearly every tattoo at All You Can Ink Tattoo is hand-drawn by Jasen Hansen. Here’s how it works: we start with an online consultation where you share your ideas, inspiration, and placement. From there, Jasen hand-draws a custom design that flows naturally with your body’s shape and movement.

This approach gives each piece a one-of-a-kind feel and ensures the design looks perfect once it’s on skin. The only exception is portraits, which may use photo references to maintain accuracy, but even then, Jasen adds his personal, signature touch.

If you're seeking a special tattoo that’s personal, original, and crafted by hand from start to finish, you’re in the right place.
Can I bring friends or family with me?
Absolutely! Our shop has a laid-back, welcoming vibe. You’re welcome to bring friends to hang out or even book a group tattoo session together. Plus, our shop dog Hermione loves to greet everyone who walks through the door!

What should I know about getting my first tattoo?
Getting your first tattoo can feel exciting, and sometimes slightly nerve-wracking! The most important thing is to choose an artist you trust and feel confident with. Jasen Hansen takes time to walk first-timers through every step, from design to aftercare, so you feel comfortable and know what to expect.

Pick a design and placement you’ll love long-term, and stay open to your artist’s advice. Some body areas hold detail and color better than others, so placement can make a big difference in how your tattoo ages.
Finally, follow your aftercare instructions closely. Proper healing helps your tattoo stay vibrant and sharp for years to come. Afterall, your first tattoo is more than just ink, it’s an experience; and Jasen’s goal is to make sure it’s an unforgettable one.
How should I prepare for my tattoo?
Get plenty of rest, eat a solid meal, and stay hydrated. Wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the tattoo area. Bring a snack or drink if you’ll be here for a while—and relax, we’ll take good care of you.
Do you do touch-ups, reworks, or coverups?
Yes, we want your tattoo to heal and look amazing. If your tattoo needs a touch-up after healing, just reach out and we’ll schedule you for a quick visit.
And, sometimes, we all have a few regrets — yes, we said it. Whether it's an old tattoo that didn't age well, a design you've outgrown, or a spur-of-the-moment choice you'd rather forget, Jasen Hansen can turned your faux paux into something you'll be truly proud to show off.

How can I book a tattoo appointment?
The best way to contact us is to text us at (208) 567-8045. We respond quickly and can give you a quote right then and there! You can also send us photos of what you're thinking so we know exactly what you want.
Do you take walk-ins?
We are a private studio and work by appointment only. But just give us a call/text. If we have space that day, we will definitely get you in!
How do I take care of my new tattoo?
After your tattoo, leave the protective wrap on until your get home, then wash gently with mild, fragrance-free soap and pat dry. Apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment (we recommend Burt's Bees Hand Salve--no petroleum, plus it has healing oils!) Apply whenever it is dry. The rule of thumb is that "if it's dry, it's fading."
Avoid picking, soaking, and direct sunlight while it heals. Keep it clean, wear loose clothing, and use sunscreen once it’s fully healed to protect your ink.
If you’re ever unsure how it’s healing or think it needs a touch-up, just text us—we’re happy to help!
Do you use numbing cream?
Yes, Jasen offers numbing options to help make your tattoo session as comfortable as possible. He uses a professional-grade process that may require slightly more time to apply, but it can make a big difference for clients with sensitive areas or longer sessions.
If you’d rather prepare ahead of time, Jasen will recommend trusted over-the-counter tattoo numbing creams you can apply before your appointment. Most take about an hour to activate and last around 2 to 2.5 hours before fading. Keep in mind, numbing cream isn’t an all-day solution for pain management. It may be necessary to reapply it mid-session, and results vary from person to person. Effectiveness also depends on placement - softer skin (like the underarm) absorbs the numbing agent better than tougher areas, such as the outer arm.
Whether you’re booking a small design or an all-day tattoo session, Jasen’s goal is to keep you comfortable and confident throughout the process.
Do tattoos hurt?
Pain varies depending on placement and personal pain tolerance. Most clients describe it as a mild to moderate discomfort - more like scratching or stinging than severe pain. You can take IBUProfen before coming, during and after the session to makange soreness. Personally, Jasen believes the best pain management comes from experience. A skilled tattoo artist knows how to work efficiently and avoid unnecessary time under the needle. In his opinion, pain control is more about the artist’s technique than the client’s tolerance.
When you relax and trust the process, your body follows. Fighting the pain only makes it worse.
Can you get a tattoo when breastfeeding or pregnant?
Formally, we don’t recommend getting tattooed while pregnant or breastfeeding. Your body is already working hard, and it’s best to avoid any unnecessary risks during this time.

If you’ve got big tattoo goals, it’s worth waiting until after pregnancy or breastfeeding to make sure you’re healed, rested, and ready to sit comfortably through your session. The art will still be here when you’re ready, and so will Jasen.
What kind of inks do you use? Are there toxins in the ink?
Jasen uses all Eternal Inks - a top-tier, vegan-friendly tattoo ink brand trusted by professional artists around the world. Eternal Inks are known for their rich color, smooth application, and long-lasting results. These inks are free of toxins, heavy metals, and animal byproducts, making them one of the most reputable and safest options in the industry. Jasen only works with products he trusts on his own skin, because quality and safety matter as much as the art itself.
